Winter SGL is ON!

SGL Winter runs Jan 30-Mar 5 at Arena Sports Magnuson (YES, indoors!). More scoobers, more blades, more did-you-see-that moments, and a brand new complex with real turf.

Details:
Where: Arena Sports Magnuson (indoor soccer fields)
When: 10-11 PM Mondays between Jan 30-Mar 5 (6 Mondays total)
Cost: $55 field payment**

** If you did not play SGL Fall, there will be an additional $25 registration fee for Arena Sports. Sorry, I know that sucks. Totally out of our control.

SGL Winter Tournament Finalized

Over the past two weeks I’ve fielded a ton of emails from folks who have conflicts with the SGL tournament being held on the weekend of March 5-6. As four of the eight captains will aso have conflicts, we are moving the SGL tournament to Monday, March 7th from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM.

SGL Tournament:
When: Monday, March 7th, 7:30 PM to 10 PM
Where: Shore Crest HS (the same place we’ve played all season)

The format is still TBD, and I will let everyone know as soon as we do about that.
If you absolutely cannot make that date, please let me know in advance. Thanks so much to everyone for their patience while we sorted through the date change.

SGL Winter :: The Curve Ball

Over the last 5 weeks I’ve been working with the Magnuson Arena Sports manager to find a date/time that would work for the SGL. As of December 27th, we had locked in 10-11:30 PM on Monday nights as our slot. He had said at that time that this would be contingent on the number of soccer leagues that filled, and that he was 95% certain that even if they did, they wouldn’t spill over into that time. He told me he’d write me on Jan 3rd to lock in our schedule. He didn’t write on the 3rd – and by the 8th, after writing him twice in that week, he responded that he was still “checking his inventory” to make sure he could accomodate us.

You can guess how the rest of this post goes from here. The manager told me on January 11th (after I came in – he still hadn’t responded to my emails) that the leagues had filled, and that the SoDo ArenaSports had sent overflow to him.I spent the entire week scrambling to find a new home to the SGL. Harassing Arena Sports Redmond for a slot, finding alternative options, etc etc.

Here’s where the good news starts:

Through the help of some of the captains, we were able to find a new home for the SGL – at Shorecrest HS (see map below). The field is pristine turf, the lights are awesome, and we have a new work-friendly time slot. Details are below, but what I’ve written to ask is simple.

We need you (yes you!) to stay in the league despite the move outdoors. The league was incredibly successful last time around, and I think that this second iteration will build on the momentum from the Fall and solidify the SGL as a tradition from here forward. This is a great thing for the general goalty community – as we will continue to up the level of play and support for all aspects of goaltimate in seattle (pick up, profile with DiscNW, etc.)

So – the changes to the SGL are below. Please read them over and make sure you can work with them.

SGL Details:

Where: Shorecrest HS Turf Field (map here)

When: Mondays, 7 PM – 8:30 PM beginning Jan 24th, ending Feb 28th (with Tournament March 5-6)

Summary Changes:

SGL is now outdoors.
More playing time per game (20 minute rounds as opposed to 15)
New, work-friendly time. Start time 7:00 PM
Runs Jan 24th – Feb 28th, with tournament March 5 or 6

What if….

If for whatever reason you are unable to sync with the new schedule, you will get a full refund from your SGL dues. Just drop me a line if this is the case. However, I need to know this by Noon, Tuesday Jan 18th. The captains will be making teams that night, and we have to know who’s in so we can move forward with planning.

Seattle Goaltimate League’s returns!

SGL Winter will feature 8 teams of 8 players each competing in a double round robin scheduled on Monday’s between January 17 and February 21st, and culminating in a championship tournament on either Saturday, February 26th or Sunday, February 27th (see the Schedule Page for complete info). The league is open to both genders, and teams will be decided by draft on Friday, January 14th by the 8 team captains. Registration closes on January 13th.
